This is an intriguing tale about a mountain that comes to life and wants to live in a house, but when he moves into the town, he scares everyone away. That is, except for a brave, practical boy called Thomas, who sets out to find out what the mountain wants. The young boy helps the mountain and saves his town by thinking of a creative way to solve the problem.

Maurice Shadbolt CBE (1932-2004) is one of New Zealand’s best-known fiction writers and the author of twelve novels, four collections of stories and a number of works of non-fiction. Shadbolt was awarded a CBE in 1989 for services to literature.

Renee Haggo is a graduate of AUT University in Auckland, New Zealand, where she majored in Graphic Design. She primarily illustrates with pen and ink, watercolours, and acrylics. She has a keen eye for realism and is an avid sketcher and life drawer.
